I sat in the truck and watched as Jolie made her way up the school's sidewalk for her softball practice. She moves slowly at first, like a prowling cat on a hunt as she looks for familiar faces of the other girls on her team. A few more steps inching further, and then there they are. She turns to me with a smile and a wave and then back towards the field bursting into a run. Happy. We've done this drop-off several times, but on this particular evening she ran to and was greeted by her bestie. They stopped for a few seconds talking and then they ran wildly together to the field. Arms and legs flying. I sat watching and smiling from the truck. And then out of nowhere I was all teary-eyed. Choked up over her uncertainty turned to confidence, her love for friends, her excitement to run. Her beautiful, sweet, heart-holder of mine, ten year old self. Choked up that I get to be the one that witnesses this girl.
