Here is a really simple thing to make for someone for Valentines Day. Seriously, I'm not a crafty person, but dude, look what I did! And it's an original as far as I know.
Done it all by myself. I say that in the way a little kid does, all sing-songy, with their head side to side. Hmm~Hmm~Hmm
And speaking of kids... Kids love this. Jolie made these with me and absolutely loved it. She has since made pom-poms for her hair. And let me just say... The dogs are sporting pom-poms on their collars now.
It's cute!
It will grow into a real flower, a lily, and I think that's lovely.
You don't have to take a shot in the rear end from Cupid and fall passionately in love with someone to be able to gift this. This is basic. This can be for anyone. Just show some kindness.
Here's what you need and here's how.
coffee can
potting soil
bulbs
yarn
ribbon
hemp
popsicle sticks
scissors (straight and decorative - I don't really know what they're called)
hot-glue gun
white construction paper board
black sharpie
hammer and nail
Wrap the yarn around a piece of thick cardboard several times. I did 40-45 times around to get the size pom-poms we used for this. Oh, and the size of the cardboard here is about 2 - 2 1/2 inches.
Slide it off the board, keeping it together, then tie a piece of yarn around the middle. Tight.
Cut through all of the little loops. Fluff it out and trim any wild ones sticking out if you need to, so it will be round. Just stick the popsicle stick up in it through the middle. It will stay.
Cut the construction board into little cards, and jot down a little note. Cut the sides of the card with the decorative scissors.
I didn't have a hole punch, so I popped a hole in the corner of the card with a nail (it works), thread yarn through the hole and tie it onto the popsicle stick.
Pop holes in the bottom of the coffee can with a hammer and nail, so the soil can drain when you water your new flower. Fill with potting soil, as directed for what you have, leaving room for the bulb. Then cover the rest of the way over, and water as suggested for whatever flower you decide to plant.
Use the glue to secure the ribbon around the can. Tie some hemp and yarn in place, and plant your pom-pom flower in the soil on top for the finish! Lovely, right?
I think this would be great for anyone. A teacher, a friend, family, a very kind veterinarian clinic. My mom is getting one, and Gammy, too. Shh... Don't tell. :)
I hope you all have a wonderful Valentines Day!
