Jolie turned 10 and her Bub is awesome and wishes come true

birthday magic

10 years ago, on January 14, I had a baby girl.

She was comfortable inside my body, warm and cozy and safe, and in no hurry for me to greet her on the outside, and thought she would stay there and grow a while longer.  She was past the due date, and getting bigger all the while.  The doctor had a different thought, and planned to bring her out sooner. She still takes her sweet time about a lot of things. Had it been left to her, I probably would have given birth to a 1 year old. No thanks. So, I went to the hospital, early in the morning, on January 14 and finally got to meet my precious baby girl face to face. She weighed 9lbs 10oz. As painful as having labor induced was, I think it's safe to say it was a good call.

Now she's ten. What?!

birthday cake
My mom, her Gams, made this cake.  Gorgeous with taste to match. Thanks, Mom!

There was a class party at school.  She shared cupcakes and juice drinks and treat bags with her friends and they sang Happy Birthday to her.

What a way to end a school day, right? Being celebrated by your classmates.  Breaking up the routine with an end-of-the-day party.

I love that she got to have that.

Knowing at the end of the long 4th grade day, the real-deal celebration is coming up.

She only wanted one main thing for the big day.  She had saved her money and was hoping that a few people would pitch in and give her birthday cash so that she could get that one thing.

The best part of the day followed at Gammy's house, though.

We had the typical party. Balloons, cake, presents all wrapped with bows, and family. Everything that is important.

Birthday excitement and anticipation of the one thing, which I had to tell her may have to be purchased another day, for a couple of different reasons. She accepted that. Reluctantly, but she did.

Kind of a bummer.

If she's like me, she'll make as many wishes as she possibly can while she's blowing those candles out, where typically you're only supposed to make one wish. Yeah, whatever. We are some wishin' fools when it comes to birthday cakes, falling stars, first star you see at night, or 11:11. The 11:11 one is really good, because you have a WHOLE MINUTE to squeeze in a BUNCH of wishes.

What she wished for, I'm not exactly sure.  If I had to guess... if she did wish just one wish... I would say it was for that one main thing that she wanted so badly, and had worked and saved her money for.

You can practically see the wishes starting to materialize all around her as she's blowing out the candles.

And then it happened.  My son, who we do happen to think is awesome, said he had to leave the party for a little bit. Needed to take care of something.

He then returned with the thing that she wanted most for her birthday! This thing wasn't cheap, ya'll. He did it all on his own. His idea. His money. I was so proud of him and happy for her and my heart just spills gushy love for them both.

Later, we came home. She said it was the best birthday ever. She took a bath and left a note on the shower wall, for her Bub, for when he took his shower.

I concur...

    1. Thank you, Hil! I'm so proud of him. Of them both. I'm really grateful that our boys have become such good buds. Like brothers, in fact.
